Need to get rid of the red dye in a pair of bed sheets/do not know what to use vinegar or salt???

Just recieved a pair of red bed sheets and when washed they turned the washer tank red not to mention the sink. The mattress pad also took on a hue of red from the sheets. Cannot remember the old country way to set the dye so it will not happen again when washed or used.Need to get rid of the red dye in a pair of bed sheets/do not know what to use vinegar or salt???
3. How do you stop clothes (dyes) from bleeding?

To stop dark colors from ';bleeding';, add a cup of white distilled vinegar to the rinse cycle.Need to get rid of the red dye in a pair of bed sheets/do not know what to use vinegar or salt???
It is too late for vinegar or salt because they are used during the first washing of the item to SET the dye, not remove it. What you need now is Rit or Carbona color run remover available in most discounters on the laundry aisle. Add this to the wash water when you re-launder the mattress pad to remove the red. (Unless of course you don't mind the red transferring to your mattress on those hot, sweaty summer nights.) However, I would run a load of rags in a bleach load to remove the red from your washer drum prior to removing the dye from the mattress pad. Re-launder the sheets and add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse to set the dye and keep it from bleeding again.
