Can bed sheets draped in front of a window cause a fire?

It is insanely hot in my room. I have 4 fans all on their highest setting but they are only circulating hot air (my AC vent is in an unusual spot and the cool air coming out of it is confined to the area in front of the window). Anyway, I just draped a couple of bed sheets in front of my window (the window has blinds but they don't do anything).





My question is, if it is hot enough outside and my windows are closed, is there any chance that these sheets will cause a fire? I have had them up for about 15 minutes and they are already blocking quite a bit of heat.





Also, will these makeshift drapes cool my room at all?Can bed sheets draped in front of a window cause a fire?
Drapes (or bedsheets) will not start on fire unless subjected to a heater or open flame, unless they are made of some highly flammable material which should not be the case with standard bedsheets. They won't start on fire from the sunlight.Can bed sheets draped in front of a window cause a fire?
Like it was pointed out, bed sheets will not catch on fire by themselves. Keep open flames and heaters away from them, though.





Blinds is a recent and fasion. Cloth window drapes are used throughout the world, just fine.





Cloth will prevent the light from getting in, therefore, they will keep your room cooler.





You can also try light-colored heavy drapes. You can also experiment with spraying water on your drapes and circulating air with fans. I don't know how humid the air already is.
Its pretty easy to move your vent. Look under or over @ the dukt and see what you think. You could buy flex hose and connectors, cut a hole and your vent is moved.
The more radiant energy you can block from entering the room, the less heat you will gain - so yes, your sheets will help and something even more dense would help more. When I was in college, I used stadium blankets for curtains. If your AC is aimed in a bad direction, use one of your fans to boost it out into the room, if possible.


Good luck, stay hydrated. If you get too hot, wet your hair and sit directly in front of a fan.
It could upset your neighbors enough to get them pretty fired up, bed sheets look pretty getto...try not to leave them to long.
