I want to do a splatter design on my bed comforter (down, i think cotton or microfiber?) and how would i go about making the dye and having it be permanent? I want to either do ablack splatter on white sheet or white splatter on black sheet. Thanks! How do i dye my bed sheets like this?
White on black would be easy with bleach and certainly permanent! How do i dye my bed sheets like this?
You can do black splatters on a white comforter. Get black liquid Rit dye. put the comforter in the washer on the rinse cycle for a couple minutes and let it spin dry. Spread it out outside on a dry lawn. Put the Rit dye in a spray bottle with 1/4 cup of salt and Hot water. Shake the bottle well and start spraying from about 6 feet above the comforter. It should leave drips on the comforter. You could also put the solution in a glass or metal bowl and put on rubber gloves. Put your hand in the solution and act like you are throwing something at the comforter. Once you get one side done do the other side.
Let the dye dry and then put in washer in cold water to rinse. I hope the color doesn't bleed and make the comforter grey.
Another thing to do would be to buy black fabric paint and dilute with a little water and wear gloves or use a paint brush dipped in the paint and then sling it with wrist actions to splatter the comforter. I think this will work much better than the dye. Once the paint is dry you heat set it by placing in the dryer for 10 minutes on high heat.
You could probably mix up a batch of RIT dye that you can get at a craft store, for the black on white, and maybe just don't dilute it as much as the directions say to, then splatter it on to the comforter.
I don't know of any way to do the white on black- you could try bleach, but that seldom turns it white, more often it will bleach your black to a peach-y color.
Here are all kinds of easy dyeing instructions.
